“Among Texas Products Affected by California Drought: Wine” was first published by The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan media organization that informs Texans — and engages with them — about public policy, politics, government and statewide issues.
Effects of the California drought are rippling across a number of regions and industries, and among those affected are Texas vineyards. Like many vineyards elsewhere, Texas vineyards rely on outside producers to make up for shortfalls in production. But the drought in California has brought a shortage in that state’s grape production, meaning that Texas vintners will likely have to look elsewhere for grapes and pay more to produce their wines.
